Las Vegas, Nevada (January 18, 2012)--The PGA Tour is back on the mainland after two weeks in Hawaii. And the playing of the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, California, is bringing out some big names. And most of them are near the top of the Las Vegas golf betting odds. Phil Mickelson opened at 15/1 to win along with Matt Kuchar as the co-betting favorites. --By Brian Hurlburt, Odds by Jeff Sherman.
"The PGA Tour returns to the mainland at the Humana Challenge, formerly the Bob Hope," says Las Vegas GolfOdds.com founder. "This year the format changes from the only 5-day tournament on Tour to a traditional 4-day tournament played over three courses. The cut will be after Saturday's 3rd round. Two-time tournament champion Phil Mickelson makes an early start to his 2012 season as a 15/1 co-favorite with Matt Kuchar. With many golfers not having much tournament golf played as of yet, look for those that perform well in desert golf and those that have had past success here specifically. A few to keep an eye on are Bill Haas--past champion and 2nd last year (20/1)--, Brian Gay (30/1) and Las Vegas Golf Region resident Kevin Na (40/1)."

As always, we take a peak at the official PGATour.com Power Rankings to see how they shape up against the official Las Vegas golf betting odds. Haas leads the top 10 in the Power Rankings, as written by Rob Bolton. Mickelson is eighth while Kuchar is sixth. Odds favorite Dustin Johnson (20/1) isn't listed in the Power Rankings Top 10.
About the favorite, Haas, Bolton writes: "Clearly comfortable in La Quinta. He's made the cut in all seven appearances, five of which have resulted in top 25s. He won here in 2010 and lost in a playoff last year. Has an active streak of 20 consecutive rounds in the 60s with an average of 67.15."
