PGA Tour 2012 FedEx St. Jude Betting Odds: Expect the Unexpected

Las Vegas, Nevada (June 5, 2012)--With Tiger Woods winning his 73rd PGA Tour event last week and the U.S. Open at Olympic looming next week, the FedEx St. Jude Classic might be a bit of an afterthought. Combine that with several withdrawals following the release of the official Las Vegas betting odds by GolfOdds.com, and the Las Vegas betting experts are saying anything can happen in Memphis. --By Brian Hurlburt, Odds by Jeff Sherman.

Leading the PGA Tour betting odds for the 2012 St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind is Zach Johnson at 9/1, Rory McILroy at 10/1, and they are followed by Dustin Johnson at 15/1. Other notables include Graeme McDowell at 20/1 and Padraig Harrington at 40/1.

"This is a tough week to handicap," says Jeff Sherman, Founder of GolfOdds.com. "You have many golfers trying to rediscover form prior to the U.S. Open like  Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson while most qualified golfers rest up. Most notably the exhausted Mr. Mickelson. I would treat this week as expect the unexpected, and it wouldn't shock me to see a deviation from what we're used to seeing recently."

As always, we check the official PGATour.com Power Rankings to see how they compare with the Las Vegas golf betting odds.  Dustin Johnson is nowhere to be found in the top 10 of the Power Rankings, as written by Rob Bolton. Bolton also has Zach Johnson at the top but Rory McIlroy is 10th so there could be some betting value if you go against the proverbial favorites who might not be at the top of their games (Dustin and Rory). Second through fifth in the Power Rankings are McDowell, Martin Laird (25/1 in Vegas), Charles Howell III (30/1), and David Toms (20/1).

Bolton writes the following about Zach Johnson: "Arguably the hottest golfer in the field of 156. He took a week off following his victory at Colonial, which chased a pair of runner-up finishes in his previous three starts. Sits third on TOUR in bogey avoidance. Two top-15s in three appearances here."
