Las Vegas, Nevada (July 31, 2012)--To say Las Vegas PGA Tour star Scott Piercy has been taking it low lately is an under statement. He currently holds the longest active streak for rounds in the 60s (12) and took home his second career PGA Tour trophy last week at the RBC Canadian. He is hotter than Vegas, where he grew up, in August. And according to the Las Vegas PGA Tour betting experts, he opened at 60/1 to win the 2012 Bridgestone Invitational, so there could be some value plopping some cash down on him. --By Brian Hurlbur, Odds by Jeff Sherman.
But he will have to contend with a pretty deep field and who knows when his hot streak will go cold. Jeff Sherman, the founder of Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com, says the field this week is similar to a major and Piercy has his work cut out for him. "WGC events get a turnout comparable to a major," says Sherman, who also serves as the assistant director of the LVH Superbook (formerly the Hilton). "The odds do not differ much from next week's PGA Championship, other than they are based on a field with half as many golfers. Based on how golfers perform this week, we will see some fluctuations in next week's odds throughout the weekend. Scott Piercy's win in Canada got him a spot in the WGC field and he will not be defending at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Piercy has shown fine form in his last 3 events but now he steps up into a much more talented event and thus his odds are higher this week coming off a win than they were pre-tournament for the Canadian Open."

Tiger Woods opened at 9/2 followed by Luke Donald at 12/1 and Lee Westwood at 15/1.
Piercy has racked some nice stats in 2012, but was looking for a breakthrough week. "I've been playing good for a while now, and you just need a couple of good breaks here or there and just play solid," Piercy told the media after the win. "I felt like I got a good couple breaks and continued to play solid, and I'm kind of speechless, to be honest. I'm really excited to be the champion."
Piercy has 11 top 25 finishes in 2012, plus three top 10 finishes. In his last three tournaments, beginning with The Greenbrier, he has finished T12, solo 3rd, and won. He season scoring average is 70.41, good for 16th on the PGA Tour. His final round scoring average is 69.69, good for ninth on the PGA Tour.
Rob Bolton, the writer for the official PGATour.com Power Rankings, doesn't list Piercy in the top 10. Tiger Woods leads both the Power Rankings and betting odds. Bolton on Tiger: "Likely licking his chops to redeem a pair of forgettable finishes the last two years. Healthy and focused again, the seven-time champion at Firestone will need to dial in his driver more than what was required at the British."
